What is a residence visa for Saudi Arabia?

A Saudi Arabian residence visa is the legal permit that authorizes you to live in the country for an extended period, usually linked to a job, a sponsor, or a specific type of activity that justifies your stay. It is not a visa for visiting or tourism; it is an immigration status that allows the worker to formally settle within the Kingdom.

Who can obtain a visa to Saudi Arabia?

A residency visa for Saudi Arabia can be granted to any Colombian citizen who has a valid, stable reason, approved by the Saudi government, to live in the country long-term. In other words, it’s not an open visa for everyone: it’s designed for people who will be an active part of the Kingdom’s labor, family, or economic structure.

Application process

All residency in Saudi Arabia must be backed by a sponsor, which can be a company, an institution, a family member who is already a resident, or an authorized body.

At this stage, the sponsor:

Register the information on the Kingdom’s official platforms.
Apply for initial authorization so you can obtain your residence visa.

IMPORTANT: Without this approval, you cannot proceed.

Once the sponsor obtains authorization, an official document is generated in which Saudi Arabia confirms that you are eligible to obtain a residence visa.

This document includes a reference number that you will use in Colombia.

The applicant must gather documents that support their reason for residency. Depending on the case, this may include:

Valid Colombian passport.
Yellow paper (Saudi government approval).
MOFA form.
Marriage or birth certificate legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (for family residence).
Copy of IQAMA card.
Criminal record certificate legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for adults.
Hepatitis A, B, C and HIV testing for adults.
Simian pox test.
Recent photographs.
Apostilled academic or employment certificates.
Letter or employment contract from the sponsor.

IMPORTANT. Everything that requires international validity must be apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In Colombia, the visa is processed through centers authorized by the Saudi embassy. At this point, documents are submitted, fees are paid, and the information is reviewed and approved by the authorized office and filed with the Saudi Arabian government.

Once your visa is approved, you can travel to Saudi Arabia with a digital visa (eVisa). This visa is sent to you via email and must be presented upon arrival in the country.
