What is a family visit visa and what is its purpose?
The Family Visit Visa to Saudi Arabia for Colombians is an official document that allows Colombian citizens to temporarily enter the Kingdom in order to visit their family who reside legally there, either as a Saudi citizen or as a resident with a work permit.
This type of visa is processed through a family member residing in Saudi Arabia, who acts as a sponsor and submits the application to the authorities. The visa is granted for a limited time (it can be single-entry or multiple-entry) and is strictly for family purposes; therefore, it does not authorize work or business activities.
Who can invite family members from Saudi Arabia?
- The resident must be:
- A Saudi citizen or resident in Saudi Arabia who has a valid residence permit (known as Iqama) with an employment, student or dependent relationship.
- Having a valid residence (“Iqama”) for the entire period that the visitor is in the country.
- Be over 18 years of age at the time of application.
- The resident can invite:
- Spouse : provided that the relationship can be proven through the marriage certificate.
- Biological or adopted children: provided that kinship is proven through a civil birth certificate or other official document.
- Parents (parents-in-law in some cases) with the appropriate documentation to prove it.
More distant relatives (such as cousins, uncles, nephews) are not normally included under this “family visit visa” category.
Application process
- The resident submits an online application
The resident or citizen must log in to the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) website with their IQAMA. There, they must complete the invitation form.
- Approval by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA)
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reviews the invitation and issues an approval or reference number within a few business days. If there is an error on the form, the sponsor can resubmit the application.
- Complete visa application
Using the reference number from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, you must complete the application on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs platform. There, you will pay the visa fees and purchase the mandatory health insurance.
- Sending documents
To complete the application, the following documents must be submitted to the Saudi Arabian Embassy in your country of origin, or to an authorized visa center.
- The visa number approved in Saudi Arabia.
- Passport with a minimum validity of 6 months.
- Documentation that proves the kinship legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Copy of the IQAMA of the residents of the Kingdom.

Multiple entry visa:
- Validity: It generally has a total validity of 6 months to 1 year, this depends on the permit granted.
- Visitors can enjoy stays of up to 90 days.
